Recovery

“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

Dr. Wayne Dyer

Help for Common Problems in today’s world...

Many people struggle with addictions to Alcohol,Recreational Drugs, Prescription Drugs, Codependency, Eating Disorders, Sexual Problems, Gambling etc., as well as traditional counseling issues. Early intervention is the goal to facing our problems so that the path that could have lead to pitiful and incomprehensible demoralization and even death, will be replaced by a path that will lead to a life that is happy, joyous and free. Dr Bob has over 20 years of success in the area of recovery counseling. He will be glad to talk to you about counseling and programs to help you.

Dr. Bob will work with you in a therapeutic relationship. During your therapy process there may be a need to look at a 12 Steps Program that could be fitting for you. We would discuss this together. The following programs are examples of some of the programs that are available in our community.

12 Steps Programs

These 12 steps programs were spawned by the original AA program. AA is a spiritually based recovery program began by it’s  two co-founders, Bill W. (a stockbroker  from New York) and Dr. Bob (a surgeon from Akron, Ohio), who,  with other early members developed the Twelve Steps program of spiritual and character development.  These groups support people who seek to stop their addictions of Alcohol, Eating Disorders, Co- Dependency, Prescription Drugs, Recreational Drugs, Gambling, etc.  If you have one or more of these addictions, we recommend that you learn what these groups are about and how they may help you.  Dr. Stadheim will be glad to talk to you about any program that would help you to focus in on your addiction or addictions.

12 Steps of Alcoholic Anonymous (AA)
1.   We admitted we were powerless over alcohol — that our lives had become unmanageable.
2.   Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3.   Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
4.   Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5.   Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6.   Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
7.   Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
8.   Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to all of  them.
9.   Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10.  Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
11.  Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we
understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry
that out.
12.  Having had a Spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this
message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

12 Steps for Christian Living
1.   We admit our need for God’s gift of salvation, that we are powerless over certain areas of our lives and that our lives are at times sinful and unmanageable.
2.   We came to believe through the Holy Spirit that a power who came in the person of Jesus Christ and who is greater than ourselves can transform our weaknesses into strengths.
3.   We make a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Christ as we understand Him —
Hoping to understand Him more fully.
4.   We make a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves —both our strengths and our weaknesses.
5.   We admit to Christ, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our sins.
6.   We become entirely ready to have Christ heal all of these defects of character that prevent us from having a more Spiritual lifestyle.
7.   We humbly ask Christ to transform all of our shortcomings.
8.   We make a list of all persons we have harmed and become willing to make amends to them all.
9.   We make direct amends to such persons whenever possible, except when to do so would  injure them or others.
10.  We continue to take a personal inventory and when we are wrong, promptly admit it, and when we are right, thank God for His guidance.
11.  We seek through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with Christ as we understand Him, praying for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
12.  Having experienced a new sense of Spirituality as a result of these steps and realizing that this is a gift of God’s Grace, we are willing to share the message of His love and forgiveness with others and to practice these principles for Spiritual living in all our affairs.
